Drill bits made of cobalt are highly robust. When compared to a regular HSS drill bit, they can be used at much higher speeds. Due to their resistance to heat, cobalt bits can operate for extended periods of time without cooling or cutting fluid.
They are typically employed to cut through abrasive and tough materials. The hardest metals, such as bronze, cast iron, stainless steel, and titanium, can be cut with cobalt bits. They can cut through weld seams as well.
