In a less-than-welcome start to 2022, British Steel have apparently announced a £50/tonne price rise on steel sections, citing manufacturing cost increases, with immediate effect. The effect of this on cold-rolled product (the base material for channel and cable containment) is unknown, but could very well have an impact as raw materials escalate in demand and global inflation continues to pressurise price points.
The rise comes on the back of an explosive 2021 which saw continual price rises throughout the year, and our response at Bison was to invest in more warehouse space to hold even more stock, to help mitigate the effect of these rises. “Having a strong working relationship with key manufacturers such as Metsec and Pemsa has been crucial to our ability to continue servicing clients requirements” as Max Morton, Operations Director states. “And with the additional storage space in our new north London hub we’re in a good position to protect ourselves against further raw material increases.”
Many of our M&E clients are tendering projects for later this year and into 2023, and whilst it’s impossible to predict future pricing, we’re keen to discuss these projects at the earliest opportunity to ensure we’re able to secure your project rates for as long as possible and keep pricing stable.
